Supporting the Team Behind Your Success

Busy season is the most demanding time of year in public accounting. Long hours, tight deadlines, and complex client needs require intense focus and sustained energy. At SDK, we take a deliberate approach to supporting our people during this critical period, because when our team is at its best, our clients receive the highest level of service.

Here’s a look behind the scenes at how we invest in our team throughout busy season:

Fueling Performance with Food & Flexibility

We make sure no one is running on empty. Beginning in February, our offices are stocked with snacks for quick breaks between client work. As deadlines ramp up, we provide weekly Wednesday dinners for team members working late, allowing for a nice break and some socialization.

In March and April, we add a rotating lineup of Tuesday afternoon treats; from popcorn and nacho bars to pie, cookies, and ice cream sundaes. It’s a simple way to give our team something to look forward to during long days.

Building Connection Through Shared Experiences

Even in the busiest months, staying connected matters. We create opportunities for our team to step away briefly, recharge, and engage with one another. Activities include:

  • Firm-wide games like BINGO, Scrabble tournaments, and brain teasers
  • Weekly Thursday lunch games (both in-person and virtual)
  • Interactive challenges like Minute-to-Win-It Wednesdays
  • Lighthearted competitions such as “Guess Whose Closet” and pet photo caption contests

These moments may seem small, but they help maintain morale, strengthen relationships, and keep energy levels up.

Encouraging Well-Being and Balance

Sustaining performance over a long busy season requires more than just food and fun, it requires intentional support for well-being. We offer:

  • Guided meditation sessions twice a week to help reduce stress and improve focus
  • Chair massages to relieve physical tension
  • Flexible, remote-friendly participation so all team members can engage, regardless of location

We also build in milestone moments, like our Mid-Busy Season Party, to celebrate progress and give everyone a chance to reset before the final push.

Creating a Culture That Shows Up

From themed dress days to small surprises like Valentine’s treats, we aim to create an environment that feels human, even during the most intense weeks of the year. These efforts reinforce a culture where people feel appreciated, seen, and supported.

Why It Matters for Our Clients

All of this is designed with one goal in mind: delivering exceptional service to you. A supported, engaged team is more focused, more collaborative, and better equipped to navigate complex challenges.

Busy season may be demanding, but it’s also when our team’s expertise and commitment shine the most. By investing in our people, we ensure they can continue to show up for our clients with clarity, responsiveness, and care.
